Chapter Three:
COMMITMENT
Commitment is the state of being dedicated to a process. Now that you have acknowledged that you’ve experienced the WHAT and THAT which happened to you, then you are willing to embrace change, and you must now be held accountable through your commitment to this process.
How committed are you to yourself? How serious are you about changing self through discovering your healing and true authentic self? The answers to your questions will determine your level of commitment to this process. If you have never committed to anything, this process will be challenging, but you can do it!
The challenges that you have endured are worth your determination and commitment to overcome and move on from your past. This commitment will test your strength and your seriousness to become a better you.
Everyone will benefit from your decision to take this journey. While you are committed to changing self, this process will help bring a better you to all of your relationships. We sometimes struggle in our relationships because we don’t take the time to heal and grow from the previous ones. While we go from relationship to relationship, we don’t take the time out to love and identify with self. Therefore, we don’t know who we are apart from any attachments we may have. Who are you apart from these attachments?
Although most of our relationships are intricate parts of our lives, we must commit to the time needed for self. Through this process, there must be a proclamation to truly identify with who self is. We must commit to self first if we want to reap the full benefits of our identity and our authentic self.
Your commitment to this process will help you to do that. All our relationships are affected by who we are inside of them. So when you consider your relationship with your family, your job, and community, they deserve a better you.
Remember that you were designed for a purpose. That purpose cannot reach its full potential if we are still wallowing in the past from things that have happened to us. We must move forward and take responsibility for who we are and who we have become due to those experiences. Who we have become is what needs the most attention during this process. If the wounds have not healed properly, this leaves room for infection to set in. Infection manifests through depression, anxiety, resentment, and self-hate. These are all infections of the spirit, and the more we allow the infection to fester, the sicker we become.
The inability to thrive and move forward from past and current situations that were not healthy for us allows us to not recognize who we are. This is when we become someone for others and neglect self. If you are not aware of who you are authentically, you have nothing authentically to give. Your commitment to this healing process is the most important thing you can do for self.
Now that you have committed to a process to heal and get well, there is no looking back.
